Wife going to Hawaii without husband who wanted to be with widowed mother asks if she’s a jerk

Spouses deciding where to go on vacation without hurting their parents’ or in-laws’ (or each other’s) feelings is one of the threats of conflict that can make winter vacations worse.

This happened to my mom and Reddit user Liarliker, and I took it to Reddit’s AITA community to find out if it’s wrong to leave my husband alone for Christmas.

“Every year my family spends Christmas in Hawaii. Post with 18.8k upvotes.

But last year, her husband’s father passed away, and “he and his mother had a hard time. For obvious reasons, we didn’t go to Hawaii.”

After spending Thanksgiving with my husband’s mom this year, the family was packing up for Hawaii again.
