“People may not realize they are stressed,” Patel explains. “But internally, that’s what happens. You walk into a restaurant for breakfast thinking you can be seated in 15 minutes, and you’re waiting 45 minutes. Now your whole routine has changed and you’re stressed.” And when customers are looking for a scapegoat for all that anxiety, they’re likely to blame the next person they come in contact with, often a service worker.
