With so many movies being made right now, not all of them are great. Sometimes you find the dialogue lacking, the characters unrelated, or the effects very obvious. Mistakes can be a distraction and keep you from fully immersing yourself in the story.
Good movies usually draw us in from start to finish, but there are still some scenes that stand out from the rest. My late uncle asked me to watch this with him. He served in World War II and was one of the men who landed on Omaha Beach. First bullet, he took my hand. By the third day he was squeezing it so hard I thought all his bones would break, he rips his cheek off with the fifth shot. By the 10th, he was crying openly. This man he loved and laughed a lot but never cried. I knew he was having a flashback, so he put his other hand on his arm, and he whispered in my ear when the whole scene was over. That scene was literally real. My uncle was the only person in his entire platoon to leave the beach. There was miraculously no trauma, only minor scars. Mental and emotional injuries devastated him to his last breath.

I didn’t realize it until recently, but that scene has no music at all. 99.9% of the movie she forces the score or pops some stingers to build tension, to cheer the audience up. For me, it’s the scene where Forrest Gump meets his son. i love that movie I was his 90s kid, but somehow, Gump taught me a lot about the world that I didn’t understand. He was like a witty slow observer of all the biggest events that changed American history from the 50’s through his 80’s. We always see him stumble and stumble through his life, always lucky but always driven by his friends and family and the love he has for Jenny. It never occurred to me that he was self-aware. Then in the final act he finds Jenny at her apartment and she tells him she has a son with her.

Realizing that he understood his place in the world the whole time and still succeeded in being who he was, it broke me. , given the first time I saw that scene and how deeply it affected me, I’ve never had a more emotional experience in many other scenes. There’s a reason you got the It’s a really great story.
