My first trip abroad was to study French and film in Paris during the summer. Every morning, I would barge into a crowded, smelly subway, endure hours of class without air conditioning in the summer heat, bump into exchanges in French, and do everything I could to keep my head down and try. bottom. Please don’t anger or upset the locals. Was good!
Paris is known for many things, but being a very welcoming place for expats isn’t necessarily one of them. However, it attracts tourists for its gorgeous architecture, delicious food and romantic scenery. More (most) than any other city in the world. But these days, Paris is very much talked about on TikTok. After a video went viral mocking tourists in the City of Love for wearing berets.

After that video blew up, the creator posted a follow-up urging people to enjoy their trips to tourists

She pointed out that a trip to Paris is very expensive for most people and may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
She then added that it’s great to be able to travel to new places and embrace the culture of those people regardless of the location.

Especially in a major city like Paris, it’s common for tourists to feel unwelcome. It’s certainly common in New York, but at the end of the day, you get people to have fun. As long as they aren’t making fun of the French or being disrespectful and obnoxious, let these tourists have fun! I’m from Texas and don’t walk around wearing cowboy hats. When I see them, I’m glad they’re enjoying their time in my city and embracing what they consider to be “Texas culture”.
Over 19 million international travelers Head to the City of Love every year to eat the world’s best croissants and baguettes and see the moonlit Eiffel Tower. Personally, Paris is far from my favorite city.But I couldn’t deny it splendidThe city itself is stunning, with museums housing some of the world’s most magnificent works of art. It’s certainly worth a visit.
If someone makes fun of you for not speaking French or not being a tourist, don’t worry. It is important for visitors to understand how to be polite and respect their culture by doing little things like recycling properly, talking quietly on the subway, and not mentioning French stereotypes to locals. But when you’re a tourist, you don’t fit in anywhere, so don’t worry about trying to appease the locals.

Parisians are known to not be the friendliest people in the world, but it was later revealed on TikTok that the girl who posted this video teasing tourists isn’t even French. She apparently shared her controversial video as a joke of hers, unaware that it would explode and lead to so many people calling her out. delete her original video and 3 minute apology video Yesterday I explained the provenance of the video and the lessons learned.
Elsa loves Paris and had a great time when she visited, so she wanted to quickly shut down anyone using her video to shame the French or call them rude. She also addressed comments that she was uneducated and had never traveled. Elsa said on TikTok, “I’ve traveled a lot, so I actually made a video.” That’s it.”
She went on to apologize for the hashtag, which had offended many viewers, and said she was not racist or trying to shame other cultures. i learned it… i learned it [berets] It’s also a style, so I shouldn’t judge or photograph other people without their consent.
Regardless of how you feel about Paris or Parisians, it’s clear in this situation that Elza uploaded what she thought was a silly video without realizing it was in bad taste. After she is called out, she apologizes and she wants out of the situation. Let’s agree not to shame anyone anywhere!
