A $15 hair gloss is going TikTok viral for the miracles it works on natural redheads

It used to be that a shine treatment was something you could only get at a salon – a quick process to add dimension and mirror-like shine to your hair, whether it was colored or not. Over the past few years, however, at-home gloss kits have become increasingly popular for those looking to brighten their color or simply add a bit of reflective shine without having to make an appointment and pay the big bucks. According to one TikTok user, there’s a particularly good shine to redheads who live in the aisles of your local Target, and after watching her video, I wish I was a redhead so I could try it.

TikTok user Ansley (@tiny_tobasco) posted his gloss experience at the end of September and the video quickly went viral on the platform; TikTok is always on the lookout for beauty hacks and drugstore gems, and Kristin Ess Signature Hair Gloss in Copper Penny is a clear winner. Ansley is a natural redhead with a strawberry undertone, but wanted to enhance her color just a bit. “Personally, I’ve never glossed my hair before… all I know is that it can take the life of your hair and take it to the next level,” she says in the video. “I always like my hair a little more red, but I’m not paying money to do this.”

Lucky for us, Ansley takes us on the journey as she tests out the $15 gloss. She shows us her dry hair “before”, then transitions to her wet hair with the gloss applied; the instructions advise you to use in the shower for best results. The color looks really dramatic while wet, but Ansley isn’t worried. (A pro tip she shares: Wear gloves because the gloss stains!) After about 20 minutes, the end result is a bright, vibrant copper with a beautiful sheen. “It looks like I went out and dyed my hair,” she says. “This is crazy.” Nuts, maybe, but also awesome!
