My mother lives far away and I only see her once a year. she is 65 years old. Even if I’m lucky and she lives to be her 80 or so, I’ll see her in person about 15 more times. The thought of it being so limited makes my stomach hurt.
After having covid 2 years ago my lungs are f****d. Full of scars. I now live knowing they could fail me at a younger age than I would like.
All paternal women had their first pregnancy at age 14, had a miscarriage, and had their first child at age 16. At least until her sister, she’s 16 and so far she’s never been pregnant. Most of my dad’s family dropped out of high school to take care of the kids, so I hope it stays that way until she’s ready.
Also on the day of my sister’s 16th birthday our father called her and begged her to give him a baby grandson ASAP… I hate the father’s side of the family. This is why I don’t consider him my father.
New strains of bacteria are becoming antibiotic resistant, and finding new antibiotics is a much slower process than the amount of resistant bacteria, so we are on the brink of losing 100 years of progress in medical technology and treatments. A guy I worked with had a condition attacking his spine or contracted a virus (I don’t remember about 20 years ago). He slept well and when he woke up the next day he was completely paralyzed from the waist down. He spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair. He had no slow progress, one day he could walk fine and the next day he could not walk at all.
EDIT: I just looked up his obituary (he died in 2011) he apparently had transverse myelitis, which paralyzed him

About 2% of America’s prairie remains, and it’s still shrinking. A few weeks ago, Rockford Airport was granted permission to extend to Illinois’ highest and near-last prairie.
Native prairie species sequester carbon much more efficiently than trees and support more biodiversity. Not to mention its ability to stop erosion.
Not only are we destroying the prairie for human expansion, but we have planted and put out too many fires, so we just planted trees in areas that should be prairies and savannas.
Don’t get me started on people’s “wildflower gardens” helping little insects and animals compared to actual native plants.

Edit: Rockford Airport, not O’Hare

Waking me up in the middle of the night by my loved one in the hospital thinking I’m at home, in a hotel, in another hospital, rambling about meaningless shit, maybe another year Don’t you? I do every night. And I’m starting to lose my f*****g mind.
But do you know what’s wrong? My 96 year old grandma she was hospitalized for 2 weeks while my 68 year old father is literally acting like a dementia patient.
I remember watching an episode on *Monsters Inside Me* when this 16-year-old was doing something outside and caught a fly in his eye. The contact lasted for about a microsecond, which was long enough for egg-laying. After they hatched, they began eating his eyes from the inside out, and he began to go blind until the doctor finally figured out what was wrong.
