22 Greasy Hairstyles That Are So Chic They’ll Make You WANT To Skip Washing Your Hair (Honestly)
One aspect of our beauty routine that has probably changed (cough: slipped) over the past 18 months is our hair care routine. While WFH and not seeing anyone, we swapped fancy blow dryers for messy top knots, sidelined our hairbrush and skipped shampooing. Now that we are allowed to come out again? Hmmm, that’s a hard habit to kick. Yes, we want to look shiny and fabulous, but also life is so very busy now! There is even less time for the entire wash, dry and style. So what gives?
As it happens, taking longer breaks between wash days can be good news for our threads. Yup. Washing our hair every day can cause damage. It strips the oil and, no matter how much conditioner we slather on, it actually dries out the hair in general. Likewise, dropping the frequency with which we use our heating tools is a nice mini spa break for our threads.
Granted, no one likes their hair to feel rough. Keeping up appearances can be a great way to stay healthy, feel motivated, and compartmentalize our everyday life. The good news is that we can feel put together while giving our hair a break from the daily wash—all with a genius tactic: gorgeous second- (or third-) day updos.
In fact, a slightly tousled or messy hair texture is an art form that top stylists work hard to perfect. Hair maestro (and the man behind Kate Moss’s mane) Sam McKnight admitted that he regularly uses the product to press fresh hair into something a little more undone. And there’s no doubt that a trusty spray can of dry shampoo works wonders (especially if you blow it with a hair dryer afterwards – it’s our number one dry shampoo hack). Our favorite hair gurus, Justine Marjan, Emma Chen and Kristin Ess regularly opt for messy partings, loose strands and a not-so-pretty boho look on updos.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, super straight hair is just as amazing. Tousled ponytails slicked back into place can look ultra-chic, and throwback nineties neatness is a vibe (example: the supermodel bun). Perfect if you want to feel a little more put together.
From top knots, twists and all kinds of half-bun fun, we’ve rounded up our edit of super easy, super time-saving hairstyles for dirty or greasy hair…
