Woman shares shopping hack to cut broccoli stems to save money, but people online react with roast
When we buy food, there are many parts that we throw away without eating. We usually don’t think about it too much and accept that it’s part of the food, such as banana peels, apple cores, or one kind of mixed-flavoured cereal that we choose and don’t eat. is like throwing it down the drain.
However, this woman is making waves on the internet for showing that she doesn’t pay for the parts of broccoli she doesn’t eat. The video went viral and everyone had an opinion.

The woman is Meia Carter, her mother and wife from Florida. She has 137,000 followers on her TikTok, where she makes videos showing her family and dogs and mostly chats with her followers. Some of her videos have gone viral in the past, but her latest has almost her 6 million views.
In that short clip, Meia is seen showing off freshly cut broccoli stalks from the store and putting them back into the pile of broccoli. I don’t think it’s wise to pay for weight you don’t use.
in follow up videothe woman explains that if the stem is long, she just cuts it off, but she usually carries a knife. but also works as a knife to cut stems.
Meia is more than just broccoli. In an old video she also breaks a bunch of bananas and explains that she only takes 3 good looking bananas.
The video showed a woman in a shop holding a broccoli stalk in her hand and throwing it back into a pile of broccoli.

The broccoli video sparked a lot of controversy, not only in TikTok comments, but also in the media. In the comments, people almost laughed at Meir for ruining the store just to save a few cents.
Many gave examples of other things that no one would eat, such as pistachio shells and bread crusts, that should be left in the store. I was tired of creating a mess that other customers had to deal with and causing confusion for the staff as well.
Some found the advice actually helpful, as adding up the cost of the stalks would ultimately make a difference in their wallet if the price was a pound instead of one head of broccoli.
Shoppers said they cut them off because they didn’t want to pay for something they didn’t eat

There was also Walmart employee On TikTok she responded to what she called Broccoligate 2022, explaining that employees don’t mind customers leaving unwanted parts of vegetables. I showed that it’s no big deal to put it in a bag or cut off cabbage leaves.
But another example shows that the shop cares about it.a Tweet Radio show 3AW shared Breakfast included a note left next to broccoli from a store whose name was not mentioned. It read: “ATT (attention) customer. Do not break broccoli stems. This is classified as theft. All broccoli purchases are checked at the cash register. Thank you, operation.”
People claimed it wasn’t theft because they paid for all the weight they were buying, but others I tried to explain why it was actually theft. Theft is the change you didn’t pay the store. ”
The broccoli that women buy is priced by the pound, so cutting off the stems saves you money and you can’t just throw it away.
