If you’ve ever lived in a city that needed a car, you’ll understand the value of having a parking lot. When I moved to Los Angeles and was subleasing to an area where all the spaces seemed to mysteriously disappear after 8pm, it was a painful hour-long drive desperately for an empty spot. I will never forget the long nights. Owning a specific parking spot with your name on it is unfortunately not a luxury available to all of us. But the only thing worse than spending hours looking for parking while you’re insane is stealing someone else’s parking space and disrespecting the implied parking contract.

Each building handles parking situations or lack thereof differently. There may be plenty of “first come, first served” parking for all residents, there may be parking allocated to individuals who pay a certain amount, or deed parking as in this story. There may be. Contract parking is unique in that each spot is assigned. unit, not a person. The couple couldn’t simply pay $50 a month to use a spot, like, for example, many buildings grant residents access to assigned spots.
