It seems like just yesterday that TikTok declared the side part dead, but if Instagram is any indication, the style has definitely made a comeback. Side parted hairstyles have recently been popping up on all our favorite celebs, from the Kardashian-Jenner family to Megan Thee Stallion. Once considered outdated by Gen Z, the side part has been popping up all over the red carpet for its romantic side-swept look and versatility. Curls and braids, wavy and curly – a side part makes any hairstyle look good.
Kim Kardashian has been one of the biggest influences in the side part renaissance and put a millennial twist on her style with a sleek look back at the CFDA awards. Similarly, Kylie Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian have taken a page out of their sister’s beauty book, recently wearing similar side pieces.
According to Jennifer Korab, owner of Renaissance Salon, there are a few products that are essential to styling a side part. “One of my favorites is to use a volumizing mousse like Pureology Weightless Mousse or Kerastase Desifique. When styling your side part on wet hair, the mouse will help keep your style in place and will also help add some volume to the style.”
Celebrity hairstylist Jamie Wiley also suggests using Pureology’s Levitation Mist. “When I style a side part, I like to set it to move back and away from the face with a large velcro roller. Use Levitation Mist at the bottom to lift the hair with a flat brush and round brush at the ends. Put the hair on a large velcro roller until it is cool. This will give a lift at the bottom and the perfect pull that moves back into the hairstyle.”
If you’re new to the site, Korab advises retraining your hair to fall accordingly. “Cut out your side part and secure it with a bobby pin. This will help train your hair to be parted on the side.” To help speed things up, celebrity colorist Ashleigh Marie recommends blow-drying with a Hot Tools blow-dry brush to add a bend to the hair.
