The idea of ”fun facts” predates the Internet. Some readers may recall the “real facts” that Snapple used to put on the back of the bottle cap. These were short little facts for people to read and were, for the most part, inaccurate. cauliflower (in the name) is also a flower.
They also frequently repeated the false “fact” that the average human eats at least eight spiders in their lifetime (no doubt, Australians eat more). Scientific American denied this idea long ago, but has managed to stick with it in regular debates about why spiders wander into our mouths. It shows a good application of the knowledge that there is, but I doubt anyone would actually buy a bottle just for the fact.
